HiredActor

FAQ

Questions about HiredActor

Including the ones where the honest answer is "not yet".

What is HiredActor?

A single feed of casting calls. We read the boards that post them, check each listing against its source, drop the duplicates and the expired ones, and show you what is left. Applying still happens on the original board.

Does it cost anything?

Browsing the feed is free and is staying free. Membership is a separate thing: it rides on a Web For Actors account and gets you the member rate across the toolkit. It does not unlock jobs, because the jobs were never locked.

Where do the calls come from?

From casting boards, forums and mailing lists that publish them. The current list, with how many open calls each one is contributing, is on the sources page. We do not host calls ourselves and we are not a casting service.

Do you take a cut of anything?

No. Every listing links straight back to the board that posted it, and your submission goes to the casting director the same way it would if you had found the call yourself. We are never in the middle of it.

How often does the feed update?

Continuously. New calls are picked up as the boards post them, and listings are re-checked so a call that has closed drops out rather than sitting there looking open.

A board I use is not listed. Can you add it?

Usually, yes. Send it over and we will look at whether we can read it reliably. Boards that need a paid login are the hard case, since we can only collect what is publicly posted.

I am casting something. Can I post it here?

Yes, and it costs nothing. Send us the call and it goes into the same feed as everything else.

Is there an app?

Not yet. It is being built. The screens on the home page are placeholders from a design template, not the real thing, and the store badges say "not yet" because there is nothing to download. Leave an email on the home page and you will hear once, when it lands.

Can I save a search, or get alerts?

Not yet. Filters work and are shareable as a URL, so a bookmark does most of the job for now. Saved searches and alerts are what the app is being built around.

Do I need an account?

Not to read the feed. An account is only needed for membership, and it is your Web For Actors account rather than a separate HiredActor one, so there is no extra password to keep.

New to self-submitting?

There is a longer guide on how self-submission works, what each of the major casting sites is good for, and how to give yourself better odds on a submission.
